For limited companies
Bookfolio for limited companies.
Run the company books without the accountant jargon. Reconcile from a CSV, run payroll for your team, file your VAT return straight to HMRC, and walk into year end with figures your accountant can use. Company money and personal money, kept cleanly apart — and you stay in control of every figure.

What you actually get
Company books, done well.
The day-to-day of running a UK limited company's books, simplified so a director can do it — and tidy enough that an accountant can sign it off.
≡
Reconcile the company
Import a CSV from the business account, sort the few rows we can't match, and post the lot. Every step keeps an audit trail.
↗
File VAT straight to HMRC
Reconcile the quarter, check the box-by-box breakdown, and file your VAT return to HMRC in a couple of taps. You review every figure first.
£
Payroll and CT-ready figures
Run payroll for your team and keep clean profit and balance sheet figures ready for year end. Your accountant turns the CT-ready figures into the CT600 — we don't file that for you.
Company bookkeeping
Business money, kept apart from yours.
The hardest part of company books is keeping the company's money separate from your own — and the director's loan account is where it usually goes wrong. Bookfolio keeps every line where it belongs, so what the company owes you, and what you owe it, is never a guess. Import a CSV, reconcile in minutes, and stay sorted as you go.

VAT-registered? The quarterly return updates as you reconcile. When the quarter's done, check the box-by-box breakdown and file your VAT return straight to HMRC from Bookfolio, using HMRC-recognised software — no logging in to the HMRC website to type figures in. You review every box first, and nothing is submitted until you say so.

Year end
CT-ready figures your accountant can sign off.
At year end Bookfolio gives you the bookkeeping figures behind Corporation Tax — profit and a balance sheet — reconciled and ready to hand over, with the detail your accountant needs to work out the tax adjustments. The CT600 itself is filed with HMRC or through your accountant; we don't file it for you, and we don't produce statutory accounts. What we do is the books, so your accountant can focus on advice, not data entry.

Audit trail
Every action, on record.
Who did what, when, and to which transaction. With a director and a couple of teammates in the same books, the audit trail means there's never a question about who changed what. Your accountant — or HMRC, if it ever comes to that — can trace every figure back to the source.
Read-only log per workspace, filterable by person and activity
Every change to every transaction recorded — and exportable
A clear trail behind the VAT you filed and the year-end figures you handed over
Making Tax Digital
VAT-registered? You're already covered.
Making Tax Digital for VAT means keeping digital VAT records and filing your returns through HMRC-recognised software, rather than typing figures into the HMRC website — it applies to VAT-registered businesses, with limited exemptions (HMRC's guidance has the detail for your situation). Bookfolio is built for exactly that: keep the digital records all quarter and file straight to HMRC when you're ready. One thing for directors — if you take dividends or other untaxed income, you may also need your own personal Self Assessment. Not sure? HMRC has a free online checker. Bookfolio keeps those figures tidy too.

Questions
Limited companies, answered plainly.
Can I file my company's VAT return through Bookfolio?
Yes. Once the quarter's reconciled, you can file your VAT return straight to HMRC from Bookfolio, using HMRC-recognised software. You review the box-by-box breakdown first, and nothing is submitted until you say so.
Does Bookfolio file my Corporation Tax?
No. We give you the bookkeeping figures you'll need — profit, a balance sheet, and the detail behind them. The CT600 itself is filed with HMRC or through your accountant; we don't file it for you.
Do you produce my statutory accounts?
No. Bookfolio gives you clean books — profit and loss and a balance sheet — to hand to your accountant at year end. Producing and filing statutory accounts isn't something we do.
I'm a director — do I need to file a personal Self Assessment?
Often, yes. Directors with untaxed income, such as dividends, usually need their own Self Assessment alongside the company's books. It isn't automatic — if you're not sure, HMRC has a free online checker. Bookfolio keeps your personal figures tidy either way.
Does Bookfolio do payroll?
Yes, limited-company books include payroll for employees and directors, with pay runs, postings, payslips, and PAYE RTI submission support where your PAYE Online XML credentials are connected.
Do I need an accountant?
You don't need one to use Bookfolio. But if you have one, clean books at year end let them focus on advice, not bookkeeping.
Can I import bank transactions automatically?
Not in this version. We focus on CSV import done well — your business account can export one. Open Banking connectivity is something we'll add carefully.
